Travel along the Pamir Highway, second highest big road in the world, in the middle of dry and windy mountains, surrounded by mounts up to 7000m. Breathtaking and very special experience.
Hitchhiking there can be very funny even in unexpected place. At the border crossing of Kyrgyzstan, border police invited me to join for breakfast, as it would have been stupid and very cold to wait for a car. Then I have been helping the 2 next travelers to understand the forms and documents to give and fill there, when it's about registrating a vehicle ID.
Meet and talk with the people, especially in the Pamir mountain. The road can be terrible, but anyone there will be very welcoming.
Ishkashim is hosting a special market with Afghanistan in the no man's land with the 2 borders. However, since IS appeared, the market as well as the border crossing points are closed.

Lenin Peak

 | Among all the summit on Earth over 7000m, Lenin Peak is apparently the easiest one to climb. Located in Tajikitan, the hike and the base camp are in Kyrgyzstan, where you can also rent equipment. And even if you're not interested into this climb, the view from the main road, and the village called Sary Tash is amazing. Almost already 4000m above the sea level, with grasslands and dry lands, a wall of peaks and snow is the background of what you'll see. The highest one, often lost in clouds, is Lenin Peak.
